India Approves Purchase of 70 HTT-40 Basic Trainer Aircraft

The CCS approved the purchase of 70 HTT-40 indigenous basic trainer aircraft for $388.5 million. The aircraft will supplement the IAF's Swiss-made PC-12 Mk II trainers.

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Modi, greenlit the purchase of 70 HTT-40 indigenous basic trainer aircraft worth $388.5 million. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced the contract signing would take place later that month.

The HTT-40 will supplement the Swiss-made PC-12 Mk II trainers currently in service with the IAF. The IAF maintains 260 trainers (basic and advanced), against a documented requirement of 388 — the HTT-40 acquisition represents a significant step toward bridging this gap.
