India's Light Utility Helicopter completes high-altitude trials in the Himalayas
HAL's Light Utility Helicopter completed 10 days of high-altitude trials in the Himalayas, validating performance at Leh (3,300m), Daulat Beg Oldie (5,000m) and Siachen Glacier (5,400m).
Indian state-owned company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) announced that its Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) recently demonstrated its capability to operate in hot weather and high altitudes after successfully completing 10 days of trials in the Himalayas. A comprehensive test plan including envelope expansion, performance, and flying qualities in temperatures up to +32 degrees C was carried out at Leh, about 3,300m above sea level. The LUH also validated its payload capability at the 5,400m-high Siachen Glacier, and pilots landed the helicopter at the highest helipads of Amar and Sonam.
